Fatal Bartlett police shooting death of Thomas Feminella – Obituary

Thomas Feminella, 30, was fatally shot by officers with the Bartlett Police Department on Thursday, May 22, 2025, during a confrontation outside a Lowe’s store in the Wolfchase area of Bartlett, Tennessee.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, officers were in the area investigating a reported shoplifting when they encountered Feminella, who was identified as one of the suspects. Authorities say Feminella pulled out a knife as officers approached and attempted to detain him. During the encounter, he allegedly tried to stab an officer.

Despite officers giving repeated commands to drop the weapon, Feminella did not comply. Witnesses reported hearing between 8 and 10 gunshots as the situation escalated. One witness said Feminella was waving a machete at police before he was shot multiple times.

Feminella was taken to Regional One Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The TBI has taken over the investigation into the shooting and will submit its findings to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
