Texas authorities are investigating a tragic incident on a Wise County highway where 19-year-old Destiny Quintanilla lost her life after being struck by a driver suspected of driving under the influence.

The collision occurred on the evening of May 22, around 9:30 p.m. on U.S. 287 near Ramhorn Hill Road. According to officials from the Texas Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety, the suspect, behind a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, ran into multiple stationary vehicles along the highway’s shoulder.

The crash involved a 2008 Toyota Camry and a 2009 Honda Accord parked by the side of the road. Quintanilla, who was standing near the Camry at the time, was hit by the Jeep, suffering fatal injuries that later led to her passing at a local hospital. Soon after the incident, the driver maneuvered the vehicle across the median into the opposite traffic lanes, colliding with a 2011 GMC Yukon. Witnesses quickly intervened, restraining the suspect until law enforcement arrived on the scene.

Authorities have confirmed that the driver, identified as 58-year-old Alan Schutt of Boyd, was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Following the collision, Schutt was apprehended, treated briefly at Medical City Decatur for injuries, and subsequently booked into Wise County Jail. He now faces serious charges, including intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid in a collision resulting in death.

Additionally, the crash also injured 20-year-old Mykah Dallas of Grand Prairie, the driver of the Toyota Camry. Dallas received medical treatment at Medical City Decatur and was later released. Fortunately, the occupant of the GMC Yukon, 42-year-old Jesse Gauna of Bowie, did not sustain injuries in the crash.

Investigators are continuing to piece together the events leading up to the crash and are reviewing traffic camera footage as well as witness accounts. Officials remain committed to uncovering any additional details that may explain how the tragic incident unfolded, urging anyone with further information to come forward.
