Reed Peterson dies in fatal Hamilton County crash

Fatal Hamilton County crash death of Reed Peterson – Obituary

Reed Peterson, 68, of Mason City, died in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 35 in Hamilton County Tuesday afternoon, May 20, 2025.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Peterson was traveling northbound shortly after 2:40 PM when his vehicle crossed the median near mile marker 147. His car collided with the rear trailer tires of a semi-truck driven by 37-year-old Serghei Gornostali of Bartlett, Illinois. Moments later, Peterson’s vehicle was struck again by another semi, this one operated by 29-year-old Funugo Nsanzinfura from Louisville, Kentucky.

Following the second impact, a separate vehicle driven by 23-year-old Caleb Jacobsen of Dows was hit by Nsanzinfura’s truck, sending both of those vehicles into the west ditch.

Peterson died at the scene, while the other individuals involved were treated and later released.
