Fatal Pattaya hotel apartment murder death of Waranan Pannacha – Obituary

Waranan Pannacha, a 25-year-old transgender woman from Thailand, was found violently murdered and mutilated in a rented apartment in Soi Arunothai, Central Pattaya, on April 26. The disturbing case was reported by Trans Lives Matter, a group dedicated to remembering transgender individuals who have lost their lives.

Tragically, Waranan is likely to be among the hundreds of transgender people killed worldwide this year, as data from previous years indicates an estimated 350 transgender individuals fall victim to homicide annually.

Thai immigration police quickly apprehended 42-year-old Fu Tongyuan, a Chinese national, at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport in connection with the murder. Notably, his face bore scratch marks when taken into custody.

Authorities discovered a gruesome crime scene where the victim’s body had been mutilated from the neck down to her genitals, with her lung and heart reportedly removed. Investigators found a large plastic bag and scissors in the apartment, but forensic officers noted that the bathroom appeared unusually clean, with minimal blood present.

The crime came to light after a housekeeper reported finding Waranan’s body in a pool of blood. The housekeeper said she had heard a violent argument around 2 a.m., including the victim’s screams pleading, “Let me go! Don’t hurt me!” followed by the sounds of footsteps and door kicking. Silence fell about an hour later, leading to the grim discovery the next morning.
