Fatal Milledgeville Oconee River death of Timothy Freeman – Obituary

Timothy Freeman, 45, was found deceased in the Oconee River near Milledgeville after an extensive two-day search involving multiple agencies. Freeman had last been seen on Wednesday afternoon around 4:30 p.m., when he was walking the trails at the Oconee River Greenway with a family member. Earlier that day, he had stopped by a Jet convenience store before heading to the Greenway area.

His family reported him missing the following day, prompting an extensive search effort by the Milledgeville Police Department, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Baldwin County Dive Team, and other local emergency responders. On Friday morning around 11:15 a.m., the Milledgeville police drone unit located Freeman’s body approximately three-quarters of a mile downstream from the Central State boat ramp.

Though authorities have not confirmed any signs of foul play, investigators are carefully examining all possibilities as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab performs an autopsy. Police detectives continue to collect video footage and conduct interviews to aid their inquiry.

Freeman was known to frequently visit the Greenway area, making his disappearance all the more tragic for family and community. Authorities reminded the public about water safety ahead of the busy Memorial Day weekend, urging everyone to wear life jackets when near or in the water. The investigation into Freeman’s death remains ongoing.
