Fatal Naugatuck car crash death of Jimmy Bedard – Obituary
Jimmy Bedard, a 45-year-old Wolcott resident and business owner, lost his life in a multi-vehicle accident on Route 8 in Naugatuck last Thursday. According to Connecticut State Police, the crash occurred in the southbound lanes near Exit 26 when Bedard, driving a 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS 550, lost control on the rain-slicked road. His vehicle came to a stop facing north on the shoulder and was struck by a GMC Terrain.
Following the initial collision, Bedard and a 46-year-old woman from Shelton, who was a passenger in the Mercedes, exited the vehicle and were walking near the shoulder. As they did, a 2020 Ford F-450 Super Duty driven by a 37-year-old Hamden man lost control while approaching the crash scene. The Ford slammed into the median barrier, then struck Bedard, his passenger, and the Mercedes.
Bedard was pronounced dead at the scene. The Shelton woman was taken to Waterbury Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Bedard, who grew up in Wolcott and had no children, operated his own contracting business, JB Remodeling. His brother Jason Bedard described him as a beloved figure among family and friends, with a passion for motorcycles and off-road vehicles.
Funeral plans had not been finalized as of Tuesday. Authorities have asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Trooper Miko at Troop I by phone or email.
