New Orleans, Louisiana Woman Casey Smith Arrested in Orleans Parish for Aiding Escaped Inmates

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA — Casey Smith, a resident of New Orleans, was arrested in Orleans Parish for her alleged involvement in assisting three inmates who escaped from jail.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, Smith was taken into custody on Thursday after admitting to helping transport two of the escaped inmates. Authorities said she was in the vehicle with her cousin, Cortnie Harris, who also faces charges for aiding the inmates.

The incident is tied to a broader investigation involving the escape of ten inmates. During court proceedings, prosecutors argued that Smith knowingly assisted dangerous individuals, though her attorneys maintain she has no familial ties to the inmates.

Smith was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center and is currently facing charges of accessory after the fact to simple escape.
