Hamburg, Germany Woman Suspect Arrested in Knife Attack at Central Train Station

HAMBURG, GERMANY — A 39-year-old German woman was arrested in Hamburg after allegedly carrying out a mass stabbing at the city’s central train station on Friday evening, injuring 17 people, including four with life-threatening wounds.

According to Hamburg police, the suspect attacked people on the platform between tracks 13 and 14 around 6 p.m. She was apprehended at the scene without resistance, and authorities recovered the knife used in the assault. Investigators believe she acted alone.

Hamburg’s fire service reported that, in addition to the four critically injured victims, six others sustained serious injuries and seven suffered minor wounds.

Authorities have not found evidence of a political motive, but are investigating possible mental illness as a factor in the attack. The woman is currently in police custody.

The attack disrupted train operations, closing four tracks and delaying long-distance travel. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his condolences to the victims and their families in a call with Hamburg’s mayor.
