Fatal Viola car crash death of Eugene Judson Theodore Stumblingbear – Obituary
Eugene Judson Theodore Stumblingbear, a 44-year-old resident of Attica, Kansas, lost his life on Friday afternoon in a deadly head-on collision near Viola along K-42.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Stumblingbear was driving a 2010 Buick Lacrosse eastbound in the westbound lane of K-42 when his vehicle collided head-on with a semi-truck that was traveling west. The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near 279th and K-42.
Stumblingbear was pronounced dead at the scene, while the semi driver sustained only minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not yet determined why Stumblingbear’s car crossed into the wrong lane. Investigators spent several hours at the scene, which led to the closure of that portion of the two-lane highway as they gathered evidence and worked to piece together the sequence of events that led to the crash.
