Baltimore, MD Man Bernard Cunningham Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Gun in the Air Near Pimlico Race Track

 

BALTIMORE, MD — Bernard Cunningham, a man from Baltimore, was arrested for allegedly firing a gun in the air near the Pimlico Race Track during the Preakness event.

 

Baltimore Police officers heard gunshots around 6:45 p.m. on Key Avenue. Witnesses identified a man in a red shirt carrying a YETI cup as the shooter. Police located Cunningham, who initially tried to avoid officers, and recovered a handgun from his waistband.

 

Cunningham held a valid handgun permit. Surveillance footage showed him sitting on steps on Key Avenue and firing 10 rounds into the air approximately 100 yards from the race track, which was crowded with several thousand people.

 

Detectives noted Cunningham showed signs of being under the influence, including slurred speech, glassy eyes, and an alcohol smell. Alcohol residue was also found in his YETI cup.

 

Cunningham was taken to Central Booking for processing and is currently facing related charges.
