Fatal Bulloch County car crash death of Johnathan Vreeland – Obituary

Johnathan Vreeland, a 24-year-old from Hinesville, Georgia, died Friday night following a violent crash on Highway 301 South in Bulloch County. He was on his way back from announcing the Bulloch Academy-Claxton football game on the radio.

The accident happened just after 11 p.m., roughly one mile north of Highway 46 near the Bo Knows Signs building. Georgia State Patrol reported that a silver Ford pickup, which had its headlights turned off for unknown reasons, pulled onto the highway from Olliff Road and veered into the northbound lane. A Ford Escape carrying Vreeland and another person then collided with the truck.

The impact left a debris trail stretching nearly 100 yards. Emergency personnel transported Vreeland to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Escape sustained no major injuries.

The driver of the pickup, 31-year-old Claudio Perez, was hospitalized but not seriously hurt. Authorities charged Perez with multiple offenses, including first-degree vehicular homicide, serious injury by vehicle, DUI, driving without a valid license, improper center lane usage, and failure to yield while turning.

Witnesses recounted the scene as frightening and chaotic. Kimberly Haralson, who saw the incident, said the truck had no lights and suddenly entered the road before the vehicles collided with a loud crash.

Vreeland was known as a radio host for WMCD “106.5 The Boro” in Rocky Ford, a station owned by Foundry Broadcasting. He had been covering Friday night’s football matchup before the tragic collision.

Highway 301 was closed for four hours as authorities and emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage.
