DeLand, Florida Man Calvin Roosevelt Gilbert Wanted in Connection with Bar Shooting Over $5 Beer
DELAND, FLORIDA — Calvin Roosevelt Gilbert, a 55-year-old resident of DeLand, is wanted by local authorities in connection with a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning outside McCabe’s Bar.
According to the DeLand Police Department, Gilbert was drinking with the victim before confronting him in the bar’s rear parking lot after closing time over a $5 beer he had purchased and wanted reimbursement for. The argument escalated, and Gilbert allegedly pulled a black handgun and fired a shot at the victim from approximately three feet away.
Authorities say the victim was not struck, having ducked to avoid the bullet, which instead hit an exterior cooler. Officers from DPD and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 2:05 a.m., recovering a single 9mm shell casing.
Surveillance footage showed Gilbert fleeing on foot before driving away in a tan 1999 Nissan Quest minivan. He was later identified by the victim and bar staff through a photo lineup.
Gilbert remains at large and is currently facing charges related to the incident. He is urged to turn himself in, and anyone with information is asked to contact the DeLand Police Department or submit a tip through CrimeLine at 1-800-423-8477.
