Fatal Dickinson County car crash death of Dawn Rae Peel – Obituary
Dawn Rae Peel, 30, of Herington, Kansas, was one of four individuals who lost their lives in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon in Dickinson County. The tragic accident also claimed the lives of Peggy Ann Sutton, an 8-year-old boy, and Denise Renee Henely.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 3 p.m. when Peel, driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Kansas Highway 4, veered across the center line and collided head-on with a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse traveling west. The Traverse was operated by 23-year-old Adam Gerhart Henely of Salina.
Peel, along with her two passengers—71-year-old Peggy Ann Sutton from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and the young boy from Herington—were pronounced dead at the scene. Denise Renee Henely, 57, a passenger in the Traverse and also from Herington, was also killed in the collision. All four were transported to Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home.
Two other children were injured in the crash: an 8-year-old boy from Peel’s vehicle and a 14-year-old boy from the SUV. Both were taken to Wesley Medical Center for medical treatment.
Adam Henely and another individual in the Traverse did not require hospital care. Authorities confirmed that all eight individuals involved in the crash were properly restrained at the time of the accident.
