Fatal Donna shooting death of Damian Bazan – Obituary

A tragic incident unfolded in Donna, Texas, where 20-year-old Damian Bazan was fatally shot by his girlfriend, who believed the firearm she used was not loaded.

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shooting call at approximately 3:08 p.m. on Sunday at a home located in the 13000 block of Hermosa Vida Drive, in a rural part of Donna. Upon arrival, they interviewed several family members who stated that 21-year-old Miriam Valdez admitted to shooting Bazan.

Valdez later confirmed to investigators that she pointed a handgun at Bazan and pulled the trigger, thinking the weapon was empty. She admitted to deliberately aiming the firearm at him before discharging it.

The results of an autopsy revealed that Bazan died from a gunshot wound to the head, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Valdez has been charged with manslaughter and is being held at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center as she awaits a bond hearing.
