Fatal Couva domestic stabbing death of Akil Sylvester – Obituary

Akil Sylvester, a 36-year-old resident of Train Line in Marabella, was fatally stabbed during a domestic altercation in Couva on May 23.

According to police, the incident unfolded when Sylvester and a woman returned to her home in Isaac Settlement, Couva around 4:30 p.m. An argument reportedly broke out between the two, during which Sylvester allegedly began choking and attacking the woman while armed with a cutlass.

Seeing his mother being assaulted, her 16-year-old son intervened, grabbing a knife and stabbing Sylvester multiple times. The teenager and his mother went to the Couva Police Station shortly after to report what had happened. Officers who arrived at the scene later found Sylvester dead at the residence.

Crime scene personnel collected both the knife and the cutlass as part of the ongoing investigation. The teen and his mother were also taken for medical treatment following the incident.
