Fatal Lake Charles roadway death of Gene R. Hill Jr. – Obituary
Gene R. Hill Jr., a 42-year-old Lake Charles resident, died after being brutally attacked and abandoned in a roadway where he was later struck by vehicles, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the incident happened around midnight Friday near Opelousas Street and August Drive. Investigators determined Hill had been a passenger in a vehicle driven by 43-year-old Tonnisha O. Mitchell when an argument erupted. The confrontation escalated when Mitchell stopped the vehicle, got out, and struck Hill repeatedly with a baseball bat, hitting him in the head and torso until he collapsed.
After the assault, Mitchell allegedly returned to her car and left the scene, leaving Hill incapacitated in the roadway. Witnesses told deputies that Hill was unable to move out of the road before being hit by two passing vehicles.
Mitchell was arrested Sunday morning and charged with second-degree battery and manslaughter. Investigators also discovered she attempted to dispose of evidence at several locations after the attack. Her bond has not yet been set as the case remains under investigation.
