Fatal Anderson County shooting death of Tayler Gennalee Maraj – Obituary
Tayler Gennalee Maraj, age 24, tragically lost her life in a shooting incident on Interstate 85 near River Road in Anderson County on Saturday. The South Carolina Coroner’s Office confirmed that Maraj died from a gunshot wound to the head at 12:54 p.m. following a violent event that began earlier that morning at a Spinx convenience store on Northeast Main Street.
According to authorities, Maraj was kidnapped around 11:40 a.m. by a 38-year-old suspect who later opened fire on her while she was trapped inside a blue Subaru Impreza on the highway. The suspect, who was driving the vehicle, eventually turned the gun on himself after driving for some time and the car came to a stop near the Piedmont exit around 12:30 p.m. Both Maraj and the shooter were found deceased at the scene or shortly after.
Law enforcement officials indicated that the victim and suspect were known to each other, but additional details are still under investigation. Deputies continue to gather evidence and execute search warrants as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Traffic on I-85 north at exit 39 was briefly closed but reopened by mid-afternoon.
This devastating event is being treated as a murder-suicide by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
