Jamar Jackson dies in fatal Southeast Washington shooting

Fatal Southeast Washington shooting death of Jamar Jackson – Obituary

Nineteen-year-old Jamar Jackson lost his life in a deadly shooting Friday night in Southeast Washington, one of several homicides that shook the District over Memorial Day weekend.

Jackson was gunned down in a separate but equally tragic incident on the same night 16-year-old Royell Walker was killed. Emergency personnel responded swiftly, but Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.

His killing contributed to a spike in local violence that saw four people murdered over three days. Jackson’s death came amid a broader wave of bloodshed, following nine other killings in just over a week — including the fatal shootings of two Israeli Embassy workers — bringing the total to 13 homicides in 13 days.

Police are actively investigating Jackson’s murder, though no suspects had been identified as of early Monday. The violent weekend has intensified concerns about public safety and prompted renewed calls from community members for more effective interventions to curb gun violence in the city.
