Fatal Susitna River ATV accident death of Skye Rench – Obituary

The body of Skye Rench, a 32-year-old man from Wasilla, was discovered near the mouth of the Susitna River on Thursday and confirmed by Alaska authorities the following day.

According to Alaska State Troopers, Rench went missing on March 6 after falling through the river ice while riding an ATV with Sean Kendall. The two were crossing the Susitna River when the ice gave way. While Kendall remains missing, Rench’s body was recovered with assistance from a member of the Alaska Dive, Rescue and Recovery team.

The remains were transported to the Wasilla airport before being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for a postmortem examination.

Rench was reportedly working a remote job for Alaska Directional, a drilling company, which required him to cross the river. His fiancée, Heidi Goozen, shared that he had a passion for snowmachining and previously participated in the Iron Dog race, known as the toughest and longest snowmobile competition in the world.
