Fatal Deschutes County Highway 97 crash death of Marvin Lee Cudd Jr. – Obituary
Marvin Lee Cudd Jr., a 76-year-old resident of Sunriver, lost his life in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 near milepost 164 on Friday, May 23. According to the Oregon State Police, Cudd had stopped his 2003 Ford Taurus on the northbound shoulder of the highway, positioned perpendicular to the road and facing west.
While attempting to cross the highway, Cudd’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 traveling northbound. The pickup truck was driven by 43-year-old Joshua Dale Musick from Christmas Valley. Tragically, Cudd was pronounced dead at the scene, whereas Musick sustained only minor injuries.
The crash prompted a closure of Highway 97 for approximately three hours as authorities conducted their investigation. Assistance at the scene was provided by LaPine Fire, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation alongside the state police.
