Longeno Jones dies in fatal Mule Creek State Prison homicide

Fatal Mule Creek State Prison homicide death of Longeno Jones – Obituary

Longeno Jones, 51, an inmate serving a life sentence at Mule Creek State Prison, was found dead in his cell on May 21.

 

Jones, who was serving time for first-degree burglary as a third-striker, was discovered unresponsive during medication distribution around 5:14 p.m. Prison staff attempted life-saving measures and transported him to the treatment area, but paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

 

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has opened a homicide investigation into Jones’ death. His cellmate, 54-year-old Jesse Ferdin, has been removed from the cell and placed in restrictive housing while the inquiry continues.

 

Jones had been transferred from Los Angeles County in 2007 and was serving life with the possibility of parole. Ferdin was serving a 12-year sentence for rape with force and was received from Alameda County in 2019.

 

The Amador County Coroner’s Office will officially determine the cause of death.
