Fatal Austin pedestrian crash death of Juan Mario Martinez-Hernandez – Obituary

On May 24, 2025, Juan Mario Martinez-Hernandez, a Hispanic male born August 4, 1988, was fatally struck by a vehicle in the 4900 block of Burleson Road in Austin. The accident happened just before 1 a.m., and emergency responders pronounced Martinez-Hernandez deceased at the scene. Initially, the driver fled but later contacted authorities from his residence.

 

The driver, 34-year-old Angelo Francisco Pinheiro, was located at his apartment shortly after the incident and taken into custody. Following an investigation that included a DWI assessment, Pinheiro was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor, and Collision Involving Death, a second-degree felony.

 

This crash marks the 35th fatal traffic accident in Austin for the year 2025, resulting in 39 deaths so far. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Austin Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Unit or submit tips anonymously to the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
