Deputy Daniel Sherrer, aged 31, tragically lost his life after being shot while responding to a domestic disturbance in Marengo, Morrow County on Monday night.

 

Sheriff John Hinton confirmed that Deputy Sherrer, who had served with the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office for four years, was among the first to arrive at the scene on County Road 26. A confrontation ensued, resulting in gunfire that left Sherrer critically injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

 

The suspect involved in the incident was also injured by gunfire and remains hospitalized in serious condition. The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed, and Sheriff Hinton stated he will not mention the suspect’s name publicly, asserting they are undeserving of the attention.

 

Describing Sherrer as a dedicated officer, Hinton noted that he was always in good spirits and deeply committed to his role and the community. “He showed up every day with a smile and loved what he did,” Hinton added. Sherrer is survived by his parents.

 

At present, authorities have not released details about what triggered the shooting, and Sheriff Hinton has not yet reviewed body camera footage. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, is overseeing the ongoing investigation.

 

In a statement on social media, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office expressed their grief, standing in solidarity with Morrow County officials during this time of loss.

 

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost also shared his condolences, praising Deputy Sherrer’s sacrifice and offering prayers to his family and fellow officers. He acknowledged the Delaware County team for stepping up during such a difficult moment.
