Fatal Contra Costa County car crash death of Gabriel Biadgi – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed that Gabriel Biadgi, 34, from Antioch, was one of the victims killed in a severe head-on collision that took place on Highway 4 in Brentwood, Contra Costa County, last Wednesday night.
The crash involved an electric SUV, which ignited upon impact. Due to the dangerous release of hydrogen fluoride from the SUV’s lithium battery, firefighters allowed the blaze to extinguish on its own, citing serious health risks posed by the chemical.
The incident resulted in the shutdown of the eastbound side of Highway 4 near Balfour Road for approximately seven hours while emergency crews and a hazardous materials team managed the aftermath.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the second person who died in the crash, as they await notification of the next of kin.
In a separate accident that occurred a day earlier, Amber Smith, 26, of Fairfield, lost her life in a two-car collision on Kirker Pass Road. Her 14-year-old male passenger sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive. Smith’s vehicle was turning left from Hess Road onto Kirker Pass when it was struck by a Toyota Sienna. The Toyota driver suffered only minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
