Fatal Uhland, Texas shooting death of Andrew Farias – Obituary

Andrew Farias, 18, tragically lost his life in a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, May 25, in Uhland, Texas. The incident unfolded outside a home on Rocky Road following a dispute that escalated into gunfire around 1 a.m. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Farias, a recent San Marcos High School graduate and former football player, had celebrated his graduation just one day prior to the incident. Authorities have since taken 18-year-old Chad Lee-Gardner into custody in Austin late Monday night. He was arrested on a murder charge and booked into the Travis County Jail, with the Texas Rangers assisting in the apprehension.

Investigators stated that the violence began during a confrontation at a graduation celebration for Farias. Witnesses, along with a video from social media, reportedly identified Lee-Gardner as the person who fired the fatal shots.

Uhland Police Chief Greg Duarte expressed gratitude to the Texas Rangers for their support and offered condolences to Farias’ loved ones.

Family and friends remember Farias as a joyful, kind-hearted young man with ambitious goals. His mother, Shannon Vasquez, described him as her closest companion and a beacon of positivity who aimed to improve their lives. Known for his ever-present smile and loving nature, Farias had deep bonds with his siblings and stepfather. He avoided conflict and was determined to achieve a better future for his family.

A candlelight vigil in Andrew Farias’ honor took place at the San Marcos High School football field on Tuesday.
