Jason King, a 22-year-old from Americus, Georgia, was killed late Wednesday night in Monroe County after a police pursuit ended in a deadly crash.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle traveling south on I-75 near exit 188 around 11:30 p.m. Instead of stopping, the juvenile driver fled, eventually continuing onto Highway 18 West. The chase ended when the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into a tree.

King, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact. Authorities confirmed that the juvenile driver fled on foot after the crash but was apprehended early Friday morning.

The driver now faces charges including felony fleeing, felony murder, and several traffic violations. Investigators also discovered a firearm and narcotics in the vehicle, with more charges expected as the investigation continues.
