Xavier Smith dies in fatal Baton Rouge car crash

Fatal Baton Rouge car crash death of Xavier Smith – Obituary

Xavier Smith, 23, lost his life early Thursday morning, May 29, in a single-vehicle accident in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Police say the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the 9800 block of Presidio Avenue. Smith was driving a 2005 Lexus RX330 eastbound when the vehicle possibly hydroplaned, veered off the road, and slammed into a tree on the driver’s side.

According to investigators, wet pavement and pooling water from recent rain were present at the crash site. Authorities are examining whether a combination of speeding, poor tire condition, and potential impairment played roles in the collision.

Smith was declared dead at the scene. A passenger who was also in the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.

The Baton Rouge Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
