Robert Bornt, a 54-year-old New York State Department of Transportation supervisor and fire chief from Hoosick Falls, died Friday after being hit by a vehicle in a work zone on Route 7 in Pittstown, New York.

 

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, near Campbell Lane while Bornt was operating in a flagging zone. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

 

Bornt’s death was confirmed by the NYSDOT, which mourned the loss of one of its dedicated team members. The department praised Bornt for his commitment to public safety and his critical role in maintaining New York’s highways.

 

In addition to his work with the NYSDOT, Bornt also led the Hoosick Falls Fire Department as chief. His passing has deeply impacted both the fire service community and his colleagues in highway maintenance. The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department expressed its condolences, highlighting Bornt’s years of devoted service and the lasting legacy he leaves behind in Rensselaer County.

 

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
