Joey A. Vega II, 27, from Wind Gap, was tragically killed in a late-night accident on Route 22 in Northampton County. Vega was the front-seat passenger in a speeding Mercedes Benz that lost control and collided with a tree near mile marker 326 in Hanover Township.

According to state police, the sedan was attempting to pass an SUV on the left lane when it sideswiped the other vehicle. This caused the Mercedes to veer off the road and strike the tree. Emergency responders pronounced Vega dead at the scene, while the driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The crash led to the temporary closure of Route 22 westbound between Route 512/Center Street and Route 378 near Bethlehem, as authorities conducted accident reconstruction. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as the community mourns the loss of Joey A. Vega II.
