Fatal Sherman County car crash death of Jayden Matthew Smith – Obituary

Jayden Matthew Smith, a 23-year-old man from Prineville, lost his life on Monday following a devastating crash involving a semi-truck on Highway 97 in Sherman County.

According to reports from the Oregon State Police, the collision occurred around six miles south of Kent. Smith was traveling northbound in a Volkswagen Beetle when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered into the opposite lane and struck a southbound semi-truck operated by a driver from Tacoma, Washington.

The impact of the crash caused both the car and the semi to erupt in flames, completely engulfing both vehicles. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi escaped without injuries.

Authorities have not yet determined what led Smith to cross into the oncoming traffic lane. Further details have not been released.
