Fatal Danville shooting death of Jay’Shaun Tiejae White – Obituary

Jay’Shaun Tiejae White, 22, was killed in a mass shooting early Sunday morning during a large outdoor gathering in Danville, Virginia. The incident left four others injured and has led to the arrest of a suspect.

Authorities say the shooting occurred just before 1:30 a.m. on June 1, near the 100 block of Carver Drive. Police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered White unresponsive in the front passenger seat of a Chrysler sedan, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was declared dead at the scene.

The suspected driver of the Chrysler, a 26-year-old man, was located on a nearby street suffering from a gunshot wound and transported to Sovah Health Danville. Three additional gunshot victims—a 31-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman—arrived separately at the hospital. The woman has since been released, while the male victims were later transferred to other medical centers for further treatment.

Juwan Montel Baker, 26, of Danville, was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses including three counts each of firing from a moving vehicle, malicious wounding, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Police identified Baker as a passenger in the Chrysler.

The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to gather details about the violent exchange that took one life and endangered several others.
