Authorities have identified 25-year-old Michael Cook as the suspect who died following an officer-involved shooting in Miami, Oklahoma, on Saturday night.

The situation began around 9:00 p.m. when Cook allegedly attempted to force entry into Mia Bella Italian Kitchen by firing shots through the restaurant’s patio door. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) reported that one person sustained minor injuries during the initial incident and received treatment at the scene.

Miami police officers encountered Cook shortly afterward. During the confrontation, an exchange of gunfire occurred. Officers administered emergency medical aid before Cook was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

Officials noted that Cook had been seen lingering around the area prior to the gunfire, though his exact intentions remain unclear. No other injuries were reported in the encounter.

The Ottawa County District Attorney’s Office will determine what charges would have been filed as the investigation continues.
