Fatal Shelby County train crash death of Josiah T. Koons – Obituary

Josiah T. Koons, a 21-year-old man from Neoga, Illinois, tragically lost his life in a train collision in rural Shelby County early Sunday morning. The Illinois State Police reported that Koons was a passenger in a vehicle traveling westbound on County Road 400 North around 4:20 a.m. The car failed to stop at a stop sign and bypassed the railroad crossing gates before being struck by a train.

Koons was one of four young men inside the vehicle who were all fatally injured in the crash. The train itself remained on the tracks, and the incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
