Fatal Hill County shooting death of Tiffiney Niehoff – Obituary

Tiffiney Niehoff, 39, was fatally shot in Hingham, Montana on May 23, 2025. The Hill County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded around 6 p.m. to a disturbance call at a residence on Second Street. The initial 911 call reported a man threatening a woman with a firearm before abruptly ending. A second call confirmed that a female had been shot and was deceased inside the home.

Deputies arrived to find Niehoff already deceased, and established a perimeter as the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Deshawn Leeallen Chapman, reportedly retreated to the basement with the weapon. Despite attempts, deputies were unable to reach Chapman immediately. The Great Falls/Cascade County tactical team and other agencies joined the search and a shelter-in-place order was issued for the town of Hingham. Negotiators eventually contacted Chapman, who surrendered peacefully and was arrested on a charge of deliberate homicide.

Chapman remains in custody at the Hill County Detention Center with bail set at $1 million. Authorities continue searching for a pistol suspected to have been dropped or hidden by Chapman in the town. Residents have been urged to carefully check their property and report any findings to the sheriff’s office without handling the firearm.

The relationship between Niehoff and Chapman has not been disclosed, and the motive remains unclear as the investigation and autopsy are ongoing.
