Fatal Bethlehem Township car crash death of David Nagy – Obituary
Seventeen-year-old David Nagy, a student at Freedom High School, lost his life early Sunday morning following a car crash near the school’s Bethlehem Township campus. Authorities have attributed the incident to reckless behavior, and a criminal probe is now underway.
According to Bethlehem Township Police Chief Gregory Gottschall, Nagy was confirmed as the deceased victim in a Monday news release. The Northampton County Coroner’s Office determined that he succumbed to blunt force head trauma. The crash happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Chester Road, near both Freedom High School and East Hills Middle School.
Officials say Nagy was among a group of five teens across two vehicles involved in the incident. The vehicle he was in struck a parked car, leading to the fatal injuries. While police did not specify the exact nature of the recklessness, Gottschall emphasized that the conduct of those involved led directly to the fatal outcome.
A joint investigation is now being conducted by local police, the district attorney’s office, and the county coroner. In response to the tragedy, the Bethlehem Area School District announced that grief counselors and support services will be available for students and staff.
In a message to the community, the school district extended its deepest sympathies to Nagy’s family and all affected by the heartbreaking event.
Authorities are seeking additional details from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the events leading up to it. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Northampton County 911 Operations Center or investigator Gretchen Kraemer.
