Vanessa Eugene dies in fatal Orange County shooting

Fatal Orange County shooting death of Vanessa Eugene – Obituary

Vanessa Eugene, a 19-year-old woman, was fatally shot by deputies in Orange County, Florida, after allegedly attacking them with a knife inside an apartment, authorities reported.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on May 7 after the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Eugene herself, during which she claimed she had been assaulted and strangled. Deputies responded to a second-story unit on Titleist Court, where they heard screams from inside.

According to the released body-worn camera footage, deputies heard what sounded like someone pleading for help. Believing a person might be in danger, they forced entry through the front door, though they initially remained outside while trying to communicate with Eugene.

After about six minutes, deputies proceeded into the apartment following more screaming from a back room. Inside, Eugene, wearing a dark hoodie, emerged and allegedly lunged at them with a knife. Two deputies fired their weapons in response, striking her.

Deputies administered aid at the scene, and Eugene was taken to a hospital where she later died from her injuries. No other individuals were found inside the apartment, and investigators now believe Eugene was alone at the time despite her claims in the emergency call.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement continues to investigate the shooting and will present its findings to the State Attorney’s Office. Once their review concludes, the sheriff’s office will conduct its own internal review.
