Fatal Chatham after-school crash death of Bradley Lund – Obituary

Bradley Lund, an 8-year-old boy, has tragically passed away following a devastating accident in Chatham, Illinois, where a vehicle struck children attending an after-school program. The Sangamon County Coroner confirmed Lund’s death on Monday at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, citing multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident occurred on April 28, when a 44-year-old woman drove through a crowd of children at the YNOT After School Camp. The vehicle broke through part of the building before coming to a stop on the other side. This accident has claimed the lives of five children, including Lund, 8-year-old Ainsley Johnson, 18-year-old Rylee Britton, 7-year-old Kathryn Corley, and 7-year-old Alma Buhnerkempe, while six others were injured.

Authorities have not filed charges against the driver, suggesting she may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash. Toxicology reports showed no presence of alcohol or controlled substances. Since the tragedy, the Chatham community has come together in a powerful display of support, holding vigils, fundraisers, and other events to honor the victims and support their families during this heartbreaking time.
