April Houston, 53, lost her life in a tragic murder-suicide that unfolded Sunday afternoon at her residence in Dover Township, Ohio. Authorities say she was fatally shot by her husband, Robert Houston, 64, who then turned the gun on himself.

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 1:30 p.m. from a woman who reported hearing gunfire while preparing for a graduation celebration. The event was for a child living on the property, though it was set to take place several hundred yards from the home, and the child was not inside at the time.

When deputies arrived, they discovered Robert Houston deceased in bed and April Houston critically injured on the floor nearby. She was transported to a hospital in Cleveland, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Local station WTRF confirmed the couple’s identities and reported that they both lived at the residence. Preliminary findings indicate the incident was a murder-suicide, although officials have not disclosed any motive.

Dover Township is located approximately 85 miles south of Cleveland and 100 miles west of Pittsburgh. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been made public at this time.
