Fatal Morganton shooting death of Gregory Adonis Rutherford – Obituary

Gregory Adonis Rutherford, 34, was identified as the victim who lost his life in a shooting that occurred on Kathy

Road in Morganton over the weekend. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office reported that Rutherford was transported to UNC Health Blue Ridge in a private vehicle but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Two others were also shot in the incident: 53-year-old Jerry Jerome Benjamin, who was found at the scene and is currently in stable condition after being taken to the hospital, and 24-year-old Jonathan Michael Benjamin, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and declined medical treatment.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have asked anyone with relevant information to contact the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. Further updates will be released as the investigation proceeds.
