Fatal Pueblo police vehicle shooting death of Antonio Herrera – Obituary
Antonio Herrera, a 36-year-old man from Pueblo, was killed on June 3 after being struck by a police vehicle during an attempted apprehension.
According to authorities, officers tried to contact Herrera at the Famous Footwear store located at 5765 N. Elizabeth Street around 1:23 p.m. Herrera reportedly fled on foot, leading officers to pursue him both on foot and in a patrol vehicle through the area behind nearby businesses.
During the chase, Herrera allegedly ran toward the front of the Colorado State Patrol Pueblo Office while brandishing a handgun.
Despite commands to drop the weapon, he did not comply and was subsequently struck by a vehicle operated by a responding Pueblo police officer. Emergency medical responders provided aid at the scene, but Herrera was pronounced dead.
The incident has prompted the activation of the 10th Judicial District Critical Response Team (CIRT), and the Colorado State Patrol is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
