Fatal Johnston County I-95 crash death of Larry Stevens Elder – Obituary
Larry Stevens Elder, 65, tragically passed away in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 95 in Johnston County on a Friday morning. The crash, which also left his wife seriously injured, occurred near mile marker 105 just before 8:30 a.m. under weather conditions that contributed to the accident.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a southbound tractor-trailer driven by Jason Michael Moore, 39, from Houston, Texas, lost control and jackknifed, blocking both southbound lanes of I-95. Following this, a pickup truck carrying Elder and his wife, Gwendolyn May Elder, 70, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, collided with the jackknifed tractor-trailer.
Larry Elder, who was a passenger in the pickup, died from injuries sustained in the crash, while Gwendolyn Elder was rushed to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh with serious injuries. Another tractor-trailer driver managed to avoid the crash by veering onto the shoulder and hitting a guardrail. The incident remains under investigation.
