Fatal Tasmania bin discovery death of Luke Jon Telega – Obituary

Luke Jon Telega, 45, was found deceased inside an industrial-sized bin in Bellerive, near Hobart, Tasmania.

A garbage contractor discovered Telega’s body behind a hair salon and a Salvation Army store on Percy Street early Monday morning, initially mistaking it for a mannequin. An autopsy performed Tuesday revealed no visible injuries, but authorities are keeping an open investigation into whether his death was accidental, criminal, or a mix of both.

Detective Inspector David Gill stated that Telega was last seen alive around 10 p.m. on Saturday during a visit with family, leaving a gap in his whereabouts until the body was found Monday. Police have released Telega’s name and photo with his family’s permission, seeking public help to trace his final movements.

The location where the body was found is known for people experiencing homelessness, though it remains unclear if Telega was sheltering in the bin. Tributes online remember him as a kind-hearted person, with his daughter sharing fond memories of him resting on the couch.
