Fatal Hobart bin death of Luke Jon Telega – Obituary
Luke Jon Telega, 45, was found dead inside a large industrial garbage bin behind shops on Percy Street in Bellerive, Hobart. Tasmanian police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death after his body was discovered on Monday morning.
Telega was last seen by family members late Saturday night around 10 p.m., and an autopsy revealed no visible injuries. Authorities are trying to reconstruct the timeline of his final movements to determine if foul play or an accident led to his death.
CCTV footage shows Telega boarding a bus at Tollard Drive in Rokeby on Friday afternoon, accompanied briefly by a woman in a light-colored hoodie who is now being sought by police as a potential witness. She exited the bus with him at the Shoreline Hotel parking lot. Police also want to speak with another woman seen on Percy Street later that evening, believed to be driving a light-colored Toyota Prado, who might have seen or spoken to someone relevant to the case.
The bin where Telega’s body was found is located behind a Salvation Army building and is known as a spot frequented by people experiencing homelessness. It remains unclear whether Telega had been sleeping in the bin prior to his death.
Authorities continue their inquiries and urge anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
