Sharon Ellis Bowie, aged 71, died following a devastating house fire that broke out early Thursday morning in Birmingham, Alabama.

Firefighters and emergency personnel responded just after 1:25 a.m. to a blaze reported on the 1200 block of 4th Terrace West. Upon reaching the scene, fire crews located Bowie inside the residence. She was quickly removed from the structure and taken by ambulance to UAB Hospital for emergency care.

Despite medical intervention, Bowie passed away from her injuries around 7:50 a.m. while receiving treatment. Firefighters stayed at the scene well into the morning to fully contain the fire and monitor for remaining embers.
