Caleb Matlock dies in fatal Jennings shooting

Fatal Jennings shooting death of Caleb Matlock – Obituary

Caleb Matlock, 21, lost his life in a tragic act of apparent road rage along Jennings Station Road in Jennings, Missouri. The heartbreaking incident occurred just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, according to Bishop Lee Scott of Lively Stone Church of God, who was also Matlock’s godfather.

Bishop Scott shared that Caleb had been a cherished member of their church since childhood, attending regularly with his mother and sister. “We loved Caleb. He especially loved his family,” said Scott, recalling their many conversations about Caleb’s dreams and future plans.

That Saturday afternoon, Caleb and his 20-year-old girlfriend were driving her mother’s car when Caleb paused to let other vehicles merge. Suddenly, another car approached, and the occupants appeared agitated. They cut in front of Caleb’s car and came to a stop. Caleb asked if everything was okay, but the response was deadly—one of the men in the vehicle opened fire as they pulled alongside him.

Matlock was critically injured and later died at the hospital. His girlfriend, who was unharmed, witnessed the horrifying event. Scott said the couple’s 10-month-old daughter will now grow up without ever knowing her father.

At the time of his death, Caleb was looking forward to beginning a job at Amazon and moving into a new apartment with his girlfriend.

No new information about the suspects has been released by St. Louis County police, who continue to investigate the case. A funeral service for Caleb Matlock is scheduled to be held next Wednesday at his home church.

Bishop Scott expressed the family’s grief and hopes for justice: “Our prayer is for healing, not revenge. But we do pray that justice will be served.”

Anyone with knowledge of the shooting is urged to contact St. Louis County Police at (636) 529-8210 or share tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
