Fatal Rockbridge County crash death of Melodie Vohar – Obituary
Melodie Vohar, a 78-year-old woman from Lexington, Virginia, was killed in a two-car accident that occurred Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 2025, at the intersection of East Midland Trail and Memorial Lane in Rockbridge County.
Virginia State Police reported that Vohar was driving a 2018 Jaguar XF and attempted to pull onto East Midland Trail when she failed to yield to oncoming traffic. As her car entered the road, it was struck by an eastbound 2012 Honda Civic. The force of the crash was severe enough to cause Vohar’s death at the scene, despite her wearing a seatbelt.
Her passenger, also 78 years old and wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. In contrast, the occupants of the Honda Civic—a 19-year-old woman driving and a 24-year-old male passenger—were not using seatbelts and sustained injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their names and current conditions have not been publicly disclosed.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine whether additional factors contributed to the crash.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of how vital it is to yield the right-of-way, especially at intersections like East Midland Trail and Memorial Lane, which may seem calm but still carry fast-moving traffic. Right-of-way violations are a leading cause of major collisions on Virginia roadways, and failure to obey these rules can have fatal consequences.
While Vohar followed seatbelt laws, the crash’s impact proved too powerful to survive. The injuries sustained by the unbelted occupants of the other vehicle also underscore the dangers of not using safety restraints.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the loved ones of Melodie Vohar, and we wish strength and healing to all impacted by this heartbreaking accident.
