Fatal Larose, LA crash death of Jonathon Bourg – Obituary

Jonathon Bourg, 28, of Golden Meadow lost his life in a deadly crash involving a motorized bicycle and a passenger vehicle in Larose, Louisiana, late Sunday night, June 1, 2025.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop C, the collision happened at about 10:30 p.m. at the junction of LA Highway 308 and LA Highway 657. Bourg was heading north on his motorized bicycle along LA 308 when he entered the intersection, reportedly against a red light. At that moment, an eastbound 2021 Acura TLX traveling on LA 657 struck him.

Emergency crews transported Bourg to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The Acura’s driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt. Authorities stated that alcohol impairment is not believed to be a factor for the driver, who submitted a voluntary breath test showing no presence of alcohol. Toxicology results for Bourg are pending.

Investigators are continuing to look into the crash to identify any other contributing factors. So far, no charges have been filed, and findings will be detailed in the final crash report.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing risks for those operating motorized bicycles on Louisiana roadways, especially at night. Riders are expected to obey the same traffic laws as cars, including stopping at red lights and using lights and reflectors after dark. Preliminary details indicate that Bourg may have entered the intersection improperly, which placed him directly in the path of the oncoming vehicle.

Motorists must also stay alert for smaller vehicles and cyclists, particularly at intersections or in low-visibility situations. The driver of the Acura has not been accused of wrongdoing, but the event illustrates how quickly a situation can turn fatal.
