Fatal Upper Ojai shooting death of Carolyn Nino De Rivera – Obituary
Carolyn Nino De Rivera was found dead at a residence in the Upper Ojai area of Ventura County on May 31, and a man now faces murder charges in connection to her killing and another death from 2023.
Authorities say 25-year-old Christian Alexandre Hillairet has been formally charged with two counts of murder — one for Rivera’s death last weekend and another for the killing of William Thompson in Ventura nearly two years ago.
Rivera’s body was discovered at a property on Sisar Road in the rural region between Santa Paula and Ojai. Investigators believe that following her death, Hillairet fled to Mexico, but he was located and brought back to Ventura County within a week.
As they probed Rivera’s case, detectives uncovered evidence tying Hillairet to Thompson’s 2023 death. According to prosecutors, Thompson was fatally beaten with a weapon on November 3 of that year in Ventura.
District Attorney Erik Nasarenko issued a statement condemning the suspect’s alleged pattern of violent behavior and assured the public that the DA’s office is dedicated to seeking justice for the victims.
In addition to the murder charges, Hillairet faces several special allegations, including the commission of multiple homicides, use of a deadly weapon, and prior felony convictions — including both violent and serious offenses.
He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance in Ventura County Superior Court on Friday.
