Cathy Buttrey, a 35-year-old woman, was struck and killed while trying to cross Highway 50 in Lewisburg on Friday night, the Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed.

According to the initial report, a vehicle was traveling east on Highway 50 and nearing a green light at the intersection with State Route 431 when Buttrey attempted to run across the road.

The driver tried to veer into the bike lane to avoid hitting her, but the effort was unsuccessful, and Buttrey was struck in that lane.

She died as a result of her injuries at the scene. The driver sustained injuries in the crash but is not expected to face any charges, authorities said. The incident remains under review.
