Authorities in Hobbs, New Mexico are continuing their search for a suspect following a deadly shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Ismael Rios and injured another person.
Police responded to a report of gunshots on Friday, June 6, in the 800 block of East Lincoln Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, later identified as Rios, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim was airlifted to a Texas medical facility for treatment.
Investigators say the suspected gunman is 20-year-old Michael Alonzo Wynne Garcia. Officers initially located Garcia near the scene inside his vehicle. However, when ordered to exit the car, he sped away and escaped capture. While law enforcement has since recovered his vehicle, Garcia remains at large as of Sunday evening.
Garcia faces charges including first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated fleeing from police.
